Hello, my name is Gabriel Diamond and I am so glad that you are considering a trip to Monument Valley in the near future. One thing many people consider when planning a trip of this nature is the weather of the region they are going to and that is where I come in. As a meteorologist with years of experience in Monument Valley, I am prepared to answer all of your questions pertaining to this region. I hope that I will be able to clarify any foreseeable complications you could have visiting Monument Valley.
As you probably have learned already, Monument Valley is located in a Desert Biome and more specifically what is called a Dry Desert. If you were to picture the movie version of a desert like in an old John Wayne Cowboy movie, this is most likely what you'd see. There are factors in these Biomes called Abiotic Factors that are not alive such as the rainfall, the soil, the temperature, and the light, that are part of what makes it a Desert. These characteristics are often unique to their Biome and help me to give you my best recommendation on when it would be best to visit Monument Valley.
Annual Precipitation Average:
The area has an average of 8 inches of Rainfall per year.
Annual Temperature Average:
-During the Summer months, the average temperature ranges from 60 Degrees Fahrenheit, to 90 Degrees Fahrenheit
-During the Fall and Spring, the temperature ranges from about 40 or 50 Degrees Farenheit, to about 60 or 70 Degrees Fahrenheit
-During the Winter, temperatures are as low as 25 Degrees Farenheit, and as high as 50 Degrees Fahrenheit
My Recommendation:
From taking all of these things into account, it is best to go during the Spring or Fall, because temperatures are moderate. However, it would be worse to go during the Winter than during Summer, because the Winter months are just too cold to bear.
Gear you will Need:
-t-shirts
-Sunscreen
-Shorts
-Water bottles filled with lots of water every day
-A tent if you plan on sleeping outdoors
-A camera
-1st aid kit just in case
